How to Set Up a Coffee Station That Doesn't Look Like a Lab

The home coffee station has a tendency to spiral. You start with an espresso machine and suddenly there are grinders, scales, knock boxes, steam pitcher thermometers, and seventeen varieties of beans in foil bags cluttering your counter. The goal is not to recreate a commercial bar. The goal is to make excellent coffee in a space that still looks like a kitchen, not a chemistry department.
Consolidate your equipment. If you are making espresso, you need the machine, a grinder, and a tamper. That is three items. Everything else can be stored in a drawer or cabinet. Cohesion is the difference between a station and a mess.
Hide the operational stuff. Filters go in a drawer. Cleaning supplies go under the sink. The scale, if you use one, slides behind the machine when not in use. A small shelf mounted above the station can hold two or three mugs for both storage and display. The result should look like someone who takes coffee seriously but also takes their home seriously.
